What are non-active products?
Luna Innovations has a wide portfolio of products, some of which are no longer being manufactured or supported in favor of newer solutions. Products can be considered non-active if they are no longer fully supported, have had discontinuation plans announced or implemented, are no longer available for sale, are no longer being manufactured, and/or no longer have replacement parts available. The Lifecycle Phase (see below) that the product or line is in will determine the level of support for the product.
Definition of Lifecycle Phases, including Active
Active: Products are currently being manufactured, available for sale, and fully supported. No plans for discontinuation have been announced.
Legacy: Mature products with limited availability and/or approaching End-of-Life. They remain fully supported, including repair and calibration, but may soon become unavailable for purchase. Not recommended for new designs requiring long-term availability — a newer or alternative product is preferred.
Discontinued: Products are no longer available for purchase. Repair and calibration may be limited or unavailable due to parts obsolescence, though Luna will make reasonable efforts to service these products when feasible. Replacement with active alternatives is recommended.
Obsolete: Products are no longer manufactured, available, or supported. Users may continue operating them until failure, but replacement is strongly recommended. This phase typically begins 1–3 years after the Last-Time-Buy date, depending on product type and component availability.
What Luna Support can do for non-active products
For Legacy products, based on the definition above, support is available at the same level as Active. In some cases, replacement components or sub-assemblies may become unavailable prior to the transition to Discontinued. The Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) Process is generally available as an option. Software related to Legacy products will get updated as needed to address bugs dependent on level of severity.
For Discontinued products, support may be limited to advice and potentially remote support at the discretion of the support agent when you submit a ticket. Minor repairs may be authorized in certain cases. Software is typically no longer updated.
For Obsolete products, support may be able to provide software if available. Remote support is typically not available and RMAs are no longer available. Software is typically no longer updated.
Support Articles for Legacy (and Discontinued and Obsolete) Products
Note: Some non-active products have support articles that apply to active products as well. For example, there are a number of articles regarding the OVA 5100 / 5113 that apply to its predecessor, the OVA 5000 / 5013.
